Blind Date It's a friendly place my local park, In which to meet, stroll or play till dark. Somewhere pleasant to sit, amidst the flowers and trees, Listening to birds singing, and feeling the breeze. Children love to play in the wide open spaces, It's good to see their happy, smiling faces. Someone runs past, enjoying his daily jog, Over by the lake a lady walks her dog. I stand up to go, it's getting late, He's not coming, so I head for the gate, Then I hear footsteps, and turn round to see, A flashing smile greeting me. Jean Mabberley __________ |

The Allegheny River (a vision early this morning) Fall is here: The night was cold and the river warmer. Its winding, twisting, ribbon of silver steam rose to form a trail above the water. Beneath the silver ribbon: leaves, mostly maples, just begun to turn red at the edges bob. Their green and red curves remind me of apples and the approach of Halloween - the noise of a flock of hungry gulls in passage a reflection of witches dunked ( Found Poem in blog description written by: Pittsburgh poet Sherry Pasquarello http://www.afterthebridge.blogspot.com ) |

The following poem of Sherrys has stuck with me ever since I first read it on 4th
July 2002: Hi, waiting to go to a friend's picnic and a carnival's fireworks. I saw a few of these today. Its 93 degrees out there!!! Yankie Doodle Dandies everyday, rain or shine, running red faced, huffing and wheezing past my porch in hundred dollar shoes, color coordinated in silky side slit shorts, sunken chested, blue knotted vericosed legs pumping sweat shined forty-somethings trying to outrun time racing for that american dream! I've found mine just sitting in my chair sipping coffee and waving to them as they chug by. |
